The international “Melon Festival”, held in the ancient city of Khiva, Uzbekistan, concluded with the setting of a world record. The large-scale event was organized from August 7 to 9 on the territory of the “Ichan-Kala” historical and cultural complex and the “Arda Khiva” tourist center.

Over the course of three days, the festival brought together visitors from various regions of Uzbekistan, foreign tourists, as well as representatives of local and international media outlets. According to the organizers, a total of 186,000 people attended the event. Of these, 150,000 were local visitors, while 36,000 were foreign tourists.

One of the most impressive events of the festival was the setting of a new world record for melon tasting. The record, confirmed by an official “Guinness World Records” certificate, was registered in Khiva on August 9.

A total of 259 people participated in the event simultaneously, tasting more than 10 varieties of melon. The establishment and verification of the record was overseen by Şeyda Subaşı Gemici, an official “Guinness World Records” judge and the organization’s representative for Türkiye and Central Asia.

During the festival, a variety of cultural and entertainment events were organized for visitors. Concerts by renowned artists, master classes, exhibitions, competitions and other activities formed the main part of the three-day program. The closing ceremony featured a performance by the famous Russian singer MakSim.

At the exhibition sections of the event, districts of the Khorezm Region, leading farming enterprises and other participants presented various varieties of melon to the public. Agricultural products produced in the region, modern technologies and achievements in the agricultural sector were also showcased.

Visitors to the festival had the opportunity not only to taste different varieties of melon, but also to communicate with local producers and learn about the centuries-old traditions of cultivating agricultural products in Khorezm.

The “Melon Festival” concluding with a world record once again demonstrated that Khiva is known internationally not only for its historical and cultural heritage, but also for its national cuisine, agricultural products and opportunities for gastronomic tourism.
