From May 5 to May 8, 2026, the second International Migration Review Forum was held in New York City. Within the framework of this forum, the Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, A. Sazakov, met with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ms. Amy Pope.
During the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of integrating international standards into national legislation for migration system management. Turkmenistan's experience and concrete steps in this field were supported by the IOM. Furthermore, the parties discussed in detail the strategic directions and new opportunities for future cooperation.
Ms. Amy Pope drew particular attention to the work carried out by Turkmenistan on humanitarian issues. According to her, the international conferences and forums systematically held in the country receive great support from the global community. Specifically, the humanitarian aid provided to foreign citizens facing difficulties due to complex regional situations proves that Turkmenistan pursues a balanced policy in this area.
It was noted during the meeting that the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN is developing steadily. The IOM leadership highlighted the high level of organization of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3), held in August 2025 in the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone, and emphasized the significance of its results.
This meeting once again confirmed Turkmenistan's active role in international migration policy and its established productive relations with the world's leading organizations.
