Modernization of the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi Railway Planned in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan plans to modernize the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway. This was announced on Friday at a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Mämmetkhan Chakiyev, who presented the relevant initiative.

According to the official media of Turkmenistan, the Deputy Prime Minister reported on the ongoing efforts to further develop the country’s transport and logistics system, strengthen its transit capacity, and expand Turkmenistan’s role in international transport corridors.

The Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway has strategic importance for the country’s socio-economic development, as it connects various regions of Turkmenistan with the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and serves as a key link in integrating national railways into the international transport corridors of Lapis Lazuli, TRACECA, North–South, and East–West, the Deputy Prime Minister noted.

After hearing the report, the Head of State stated that effective work is being carried out to develop the transport and logistics sector and strengthen the country’s transit potential. Emphasizing the strategic importance of the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway for Turkmenistan’s socio-economic development, the President approved the proposed modernization plan and instructed to carry out the relevant work in this direction.

The meeting also reviewed other important issues of state life, and appropriate decisions were adopted.
