A two-day national seminar dedicated to updating Turkmenistan's National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan is being held in Ashgabat. The event was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, within the framework of a project by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, mfa.gov.tm, the seminar discusses the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for 2026–2035.

The meeting is attended by representatives of relevant state agencies, scientists from research institutes, business circles, and environmental public organizations. Participants pay special attention to ways of ensuring harmony between economic growth and the careful use of natural resources.

During the seminar, the draft of Turkmenistan's Seventh National Report under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity is also being discussed. Additionally, the preparation of relevant reports under the Cartagena and Nagoya protocols concerning biosafety and the utilization of genetic resources is being reviewed.

The updated national strategy is expected to serve as a basis for more effective implementation of measures in the coming years aimed at protecting flora and fauna, ensuring the rational use of natural resources, and preserving the environment.
