
The ninth inter-parliamentary meeting in the "European Union – Turkmenistan" format was held on Thursday at the European Parliament located in Brussels, Belgium. This was reported by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Maksat Kuliyev, Chairman of the Committee on International and Inter-parliamentary Relations of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. The meeting was chaired by MEP Giuseppina Princi, Chair of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with the countries of Central Asia (DCAS).
Participants of the meeting noted that regular inter-parliamentary relations are of great importance for strengthening trust and developing dialogue between the parties. The parties discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation in economy, energy, and science-education programs.
The Turkmen side provided information on national priorities related to sustainable development, energy, and ecology, including ongoing work to expand the use of renewable energy sources. The capabilities of the Turkmenbashy International Seaport were also noted. Furthermore, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan's status of permanent Neutrality is regarded as an important indicator of strengthening peace and security.
On the same day, a meeting was held between members of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and Belgian parliamentarians led by Senator and Member of the Flemish Parliament Stephanie D'Hose. The Belgian side expressed great interest in the economic development of Turkmenistan and the possibilities for expanding cooperation.
The next session of the inter-parliamentary dialogue is planned to be held in Ashgabat at the beginning of next year.
