A project office of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) may open in the near future in Ashgabat, the capital city of Turkmenistan.
According to the "Trend" international news agency, these plans were disclosed by Irfan Ali, Director of the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. He highlighted this important step during his speech at the Eastern Europe and Central Asia Forum, which was organized within the framework of the World Urban Forum.
As noted by Irfan Ali, the regional office of the organization currently covers a total of 25 countries, including the states of Eastern and Southern Europe, the Western Balkans, the Caucasus, Central Asia, as well as Turkey and Russia. This Regional Office, along with other UN agencies, is located in Istanbul, Turkey.
"We already have a special programme for opening offices in four countries — in Kyiv, Moscow, Kosovo, and Baku. I highly hope that our project office will be opened in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, very soon," the UN-Habitat representative emphasized.
It is worth noting that the delegation of Turkmenistan actively participates in the World Urban Forum, which is dedicated to the issues of sustainable urban development and the creation of ecologically clean human settlements. The opening of the new office in our capital will provide a new impetus to further strengthening the multifaceted cooperation between our country and the UN.
