There are countless natural beauties across the globe that amaze those who see them. One of the places distinguished by its beautiful nature is the Rainbow Mountains of Peru. According to scientists, these colorful rocks, which are among the most beautiful places in South America, were formed as a result of rain and wind over thousands of years. Consisting of seven different colored mineral layers, the Rainbow Mountains were included in the list of "must-visit" places in the tourism industry in 2015. Being a part of the Andes Mountains, several natural wonders can be observed here. About 1,500 tourists visit the Rainbow Mountain, also known as "Vinicunca" (colored mountain), every day. Between 2012 and 2015, the ice on top of the mountain gradually melted and decreased. Currently, even the highest point of the Rainbow Mountain can be clearly observed. Due to the presence of large amounts of red iron oxide, yellow iron sulfide, and green chlorite in the composition of the mountain rocks, it shimmers in various colors. Pink, yellow, orange, golden, and green colors run in stripes across the mountain ridges. The Rainbow Mountains are located at an altitude of 5,200 meters above sea level. There are special hiking trails leading to the mountain. For those who have difficulty climbing the steep hills, horses are also available for rent. That is, it is possible to reach the top of the mountain on horseback instead of on foot. Visits to the Rainbow Mountain are permitted between March and November. Located 62 kilometers from the Cusco region, the Rainbow Mountain looks especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset.
