The results of the creative contest "Translation – Dialogue of Cultures" were summarized at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. Its main goal was to increase students' interest in their chosen profession and to improve their translation skills.
According to the terms of the contest, participants had to perform literary translations into the Turkmen language of excerpts from previously unpublished works by famous foreign authors from 13 foreign languages studied at the institute (English, Russian, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Arabic, Persian, and Turkish).
The jury evaluated the translations by analyzing the accuracy of the text's content, compliance with stylistic requirements, and adherence to the norms of the Turkmen literary language. The jury included foreign language teachers from the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, as well as translators from the editorial office of the "Arkadagly Ýaşlar" electronic journal under the Central Council of the Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan.
The winners and prize-winners were awarded diplomas and souvenirs on behalf of the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. The winners of the contest were: Shemshat Azadowa, a 2nd-year student of the Faculty of Oriental Languages and Literature (1st place); Humay Muhayewa, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature (2nd place); Arslan Tejenov, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Oriental Languages and Literature; Meryem Meredowa, a 3rd-year student of the same faculty; and Merjen Gubaýewa, a 2nd-year student of the Faculty of European Languages and Literature (3rd place). It was noted as a special incentive for the participants that the best works would be recommended for publication in the "Arkadagly Ýaşlar" electronic journal.
The contest not only demonstrated the students' great interest in learning foreign languages but also served as an important step in promoting world literature in the Turkmen language and strengthened the bridges of mutual understanding between cultures.
