According to Russian Permanent Representative Lukashevich, Turkmenistan actively participates in the activities of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) based on its national interests, while currently holding the presidency of the organization this year. Turkmenistan has fully undertaken obligations stemming from the Agreement on the Creation of the CIS dated December 8, 1991, as well as the Protocol adopted on December 21, 1991.

Lukashevich noted that signing the CIS Charter by Turkmenistan would be a positive step forward. At the same time, he emphasized that making such a decision remains the sovereign right of every state as a subject of international law.

The diplomat also drew attention to the flexibility of the CIS membership model. According to him, this flexibility allows participating states to establish interactions with the organization based on their specific priorities across various fields of cooperation.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Based on the results of 2025, the gross domestic product (GDP) across the CIS grew by 2%, with economic growth recorded in all member states.
