Singaporean startup Flint showcased AA and AAA paper batteries at CES 2026, now in production. A year ago they were prototypes, and now Logitech, Amazon, and Apple accessory maker Nimble have ordered them. By the end of 2026, these batteries will be available for general sale and are likely to replace heavy-metal alternatives.
Flint engineers didn’t invent a new battery format, ensuring compatibility with existing devices. Their focus is on decarbonization and renewable raw materials. The main component is cellulose, with chemical reactions in a water-based electrolyte containing safe minerals like zinc and manganese.
The technology is also designed to utilize invasive plant species that threaten ecosystems. Used batteries are biodegradable and can be used as soil additive for growing beneficial plants.
