An official reception on the occasion of the birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito was organized by the Embassy of Japan in Ashgabat. The event was attended by a wide range of guest of honor, including the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in the country, representatives of international organizations, as well as business circles and the media. This meeting became an important event in the calendar of bilateral relations, demonstrating the strength and trusting nature of the interstate dialogue.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Turkmenistan Sasaki Hiroshi addressed the audience in the Turkmen language, which became a unique sign of respect for the culture of the host country. In his speech, the diplomat drew attention to the special progress achieved in high-level relations over the past year.
Of particular importance were the two visits of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Japan to participate in the "EXPO-2025" world exhibition and the summit of heads of state in the "Central Asia + Japan" format.
The Ambassador emphasized the unique nature of these visits: the reception of a foreign head of state by the Emperor twice within one year is an extremely rare case in diplomatic practice and serves as evidence of the high level of bilateral ties.
Based on the successes achieved, the Embassy of Japan announced major plans for 2026. Among the priority tasks is the expansion of the presence of Japanese companies in the rapidly growing Turkmen market, which should give a new impetus to economic cooperation.
The parties also plan to focus on the humanitarian sphere: the development of educational programs for learning the Japanese language and the strengthening of cultural exchange. These initiatives are aimed at strengthening the foundation of mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries through acquaintance with each other's traditions and modern achievements.
Holding solemn receptions on the occasion of the Emperor's birthday is a core tradition of Japan's diplomatic missions around the world and is celebrated as one of the country's most important national holidays. The official date of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito's 66th birthday is February 23.
The festive evening in Ashgabat once again confirmed the readiness of the parties to further deepen multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation in the spirit of strategic partnership.
