
On February 25, 2026, a regular meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held in Tehran. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
In order to increase the trade turnover between ECO countries, it is important to actively utilize cross-border and regional trade opportunities. To achieve this, it is necessary to create a favorable cross-border environment and encourage regional cooperation, which is a system of agreed advantages and priority directions.
During the meeting, an agenda item was considered regarding the conduct of a feasibility study for the creation of joint trade zones within the Economic Cooperation Organization region, previously proposed based on the initiative of the Honorable President of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, Turkmenistan's experience in this field was presented, in particular, the significance of the joint trade zone launched between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan was highlighted. As a result, it was proposed to conduct the feasibility study based on the preparation of a relevant project by the Secretariat.
This proposal was supported by the Council of Permanent Representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
In this regard, the Secretariat of the Organization will begin preparing the relevant project for the practical implementation of the Turkmen side's proposal.
