Gowher Saparmyradowa, Lecturer at the Department of Art History of the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan: In the Era of the Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State, under the leadership of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, and Arkadagly Hero-Serdar, extensive work is being carried out for the development of national culture and art. A clear example of this is the joint cultural event "Silk Road Carnival – Spring Festival," held these days with the participation of art representatives from Turkmenistan and China. Within the framework of this significant event, a calligraphy master class was organized with the participation of students from the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan and Chinese art representatives.
The word "calligraphy," translated from Greek, means "beautiful writing" and is a unique branch of fine arts. In the modern definition, calligraphy signifies "decorating symbols in an expressive, harmonious, and elegant manner."
During the master class held at our higher education institution, Qian Li — a board member of the Shanghai International Culture Association and a member of the Shanghai Musicians and Playwrights Associations — spoke in detail about the history and delicate methods of the art of writing, which holds a central place in Chinese culture. Xu Bing, a professor at Shanghai University and Shanghai University of Engineering Sciences, masterfully explained the meaning and unique expression of each character.
Yen Peng Dong, an actor of the Peking Opera, demonstrated the writing methods of each character, the tools used, the preparation of colors, and the techniques of swift execution through visual displays. He worked alongside the students, practicing the methods of writing each character together. Such lessons help our youth to deeply study ancient cultures and master the historical methods of the art of calligraphy.
