
Turkmen tennis players achieved double gold success at the first tournament of the West & Central Asia U-14 Championship, which concluded in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.
The "ITF Asia 14&U Development Championship – (West & Central Asia)" brought together representatives from 13 countries: Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, UAE, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Over two weeks, they are competing for medals in two ranking tournaments. Four athletes represented our country.
In the singles category, Nazli Hudaykulyyeva, a 7th-grade student at Ashgabat Secondary School No. 87, rose to the top of the podium. In the final, she secured a confident victory over Ayasofia Gokashau of Jordan in three sets (0:6, 6:1, 6:3).
Nazli added another gold medal to this achievement in the doubles category, sharing the victory with 12-year-old Sulgun Ishankulyyeva. In the final of this event, the Turkmen duo confidently defeated Lebanese athletes Maria El Hachache and Mariam Kamareddine in two sets (6:3, 7:5) and were awarded top honors.
Notably, last month, both tennis players performed successfully at the Category "A" international tournament held in Isa Town (Bahrain) under the auspices of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF). In that competition, S. Ishankulyyeva won a silver medal in doubles with Jordan's A. Gokashau, while N. Hudaykulyyeva ranked among the top four in singles among representatives from 17 countries.
Both athletes are members of the Turkmenistan national team. Nazli Hudaykulyyeva, who will turn 13 on February 19, trains under the guidance of Meýlis Orazmuhammedow and Yuri Rogusskiy. Sulgun Ishankulyyeva is a student of the "Jahan döredijilik merkezi" (coached by Jennet Hallyyeva) and refines her skills in the national team under head coach Yuri Rogusskiy.
The winners of the second tournament of the West & Central Asia Championship will be announced in the coming days.
