Yesterday, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, departed for a working visit to the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation. This visit is aimed at enriching the centuries-old historical ties and strategic partnership between the two brotherly nations with new content.
The Hero-Arkadag’s plane landed at the Kazan International Airport named after Gabdulla Tuqay, where he was warmly welcomed by the Head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. In the afternoon, extensive negotiations involving delegations from both countries were held at the Kazan Kremlin.
During the meeting, the parties highlighted the significance of the ongoing XVII International Economic Forum "Russia — Islamic World: KazanForum — 2026." The National Leader extended his congratulations on Kazan being declared the "Cultural Capital of the Islamic World" this year and expressed confidence that the forum would strengthen regional economic cooperation.
The talks covered the development of bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors such as industry, energy, and digital systems, utilizing the expertise of companies like "KAMAZ" and "Tatneft," as well as the implementation of innovative IT solutions.
Significant initiatives were also put forward in the humanitarian sphere. Noting that thousands of Turkmen students are currently studying at universities in Tatarstan, the Hero-Arkadag emphasized the importance of strengthening direct links between educational institutions.
To further revitalize cultural ties, the National Leader proposed hosting the final stage of the "Tatar Kyzy — 2026" (Tatar Girl) contest in Ashgabat. This proposal received full support from the Tatarstan side.
At the end of the negotiations, the parties reaffirmed that this visit would elevate regional relations—a key component of the Turkmen-Russian strategic partnership—to a new level. The leaders of both countries exchanged their best wishes for peace and prosperity for their brotherly peoples.
