Speaking at the international conference and exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan — 2026” in Ashgabat, Malaysia’s Minister of Economy, Akmal Nasrullah bin Mohd Nasir, highlighted the importance of the two countries’ longstanding cooperation in the fuel and energy sector.

According to the Malaysian minister, Petronas has been operating in Turkmenistan since 1996. Over the years, the company has contributed not only to hydrocarbon production but also to the development of local infrastructure, the expansion of the fuel and energy sector’s capabilities, and the training of national specialists.

Akmal Nasrullah bin Mohd Nasir noted that a meeting between Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Malaysia’s Prime Minister had placed particular emphasis on further strengthening bilateral relations, especially cooperation in the oil and gas industry. He stated that following the meeting, the governments of the two countries signed an agreement on long-term cooperation in the development of Turkmenistan’s hydrocarbon resources.

Malaysia is participating in the OGT-2026 international forum with a delegation representing more than 20 companies specializing in oil and gas services and equipment maintenance. Malaysia’s main objective is to combine advanced technologies with Turkmenistan’s abundant natural resources to implement mutually beneficial projects.

The minister emphasized that the effectiveness of cooperation is measured not only by the value of contracts signed. Supporting local suppliers, sharing professional expertise, and improving people’s well-being are equally important areas of collaboration.

Malaysia’s Minister of Economy reaffirmed the two countries’ readiness to develop new areas of cooperation aimed at implementing energy projects of international significance and improving the well-being of their friendly peoples.
