At the recent digital meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the action plan for preparations for the Year of International Law, scheduled for 2028. This initiative, previously proposed by the Head of State at the UN, is aimed at strengthening the legal foundations of peace and security worldwide.
One of Turkmenistan’s key partners in implementing this important and extensive task will be the United Nations Secretariat’s Office of Legal Affairs. Several strategic steps have been outlined within the approved plan.
These include submitting a draft resolution to the UN General Assembly to declare 2028 as the Year of International Law, preparing a national concept titled “International Law and Turkmenistan’s Neutrality”, and organizing forums, scientific-practical conferences, and briefings at national and international levels.
The plan also places special emphasis on legal diplomacy and improving the legal literacy of the younger generation. In particular, specialized classes on international law will be held in schools and universities with participation of international experts. Competitions for scientific papers and essays will be organized to identify promising specialists among youth, and a dedicated section will be created on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted the importance of these comprehensive measures in strengthening international legal foundations, peace, and cooperation, and assigned Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov to oversee the relevant work.
