Turkmenistan is modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure: by 2028, the number of international optical fiber communication lines will reach 11. The Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan is implementing a large-scale program aimed at the digital transformation of the economy. Within the framework of the State Program for 2026–2028, the construction of new cross-border optical fiber trunk lines is planned.
The Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan is working in two main directions for international connectivity. The first direction involves the construction of the «Arkadag Ak Ýoly – Serhetabat – Herat» optical fiber communication line. This project will increase the volume of transit data flows and enable access to the telecommunications services market of India.
The second strategic project is implemented in cooperation with Azerbaijan: «Türkmentelekom» and «Azertelekom» are laying a submarine optical fiber line across the Caspian Sea. At the same time, the construction of terrestrial trunk lines along the Etrek – İnçeburun and Bekdaş – Temirbaba routes is underway.
The implementation of these projects will increase the number of international optical fiber connections from eight to eleven and significantly enhance the bandwidth of the national data transmission system. Turkmenistan strengthens its position in Central Asia as a key information and communication bridge between East and West, North and South.
