Preparations are underway for the 84th session of the CIS Railway Transport Council, which will be held in Turkmenistan in May 2016. The railway sector plays a crucial role in international transportation and serves as a reliable foundation for stable economic relations between states.
The session agenda includes reviewing the implementation of adopted decisions, efficiency of international freight and passenger transportation, plans for organizing passenger, cargo, and container train movements, tariff policy, and settlements between railway administrations.
Deputy Minister of Railways of Turkmenistan S. Nurberdiyev, speaking at the recent SPECA Economic Forum in Ashgabat, highlighted that delegations of member states will be received at a high level and invited participants to join the session. Special attention is given to cooperation within the Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman corridor, as well as to the eastern route of the North–South international transport corridor via the Kazakhstan – Turkmenistan – Iran (KTI) railway, which provides the most convenient access to Omani ports not only for regional countries but also for economically developed nations such as Russia and China.
