On September 2, 2026, a high-level forum dedicated to the role of women in promoting a culture of peace was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The event, titled "Women’s Leadership in Promoting a Culture of Peace," was aimed at discussing issues related to the implementation of the Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace. The forum was held at the initiative of Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 80/294, "Continuation of the work on the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace."

The high-level meeting was attended by heads of UN specialized agencies, representatives of UNESCO, internationally recognized peacebuilding figures, and delegations of UN member states.

At the plenary session of the forum, Vepa Hajiyev, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, delivered a statement on behalf of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security, and Development, as well as at the national level.

The statement drew attention to the close connection between a culture of peace and the policy of neutrality. It was noted that these principles are reflected in UN General Assembly resolution 80/294, as well as in resolution 80/262 initiated by Turkmenistan, titled "The role and significance of the policy of neutrality in supporting and strengthening international peace, security, and sustainable development."

The statement at the forum particularly emphasized the importance of women's active participation in preventive diplomacy, peace negotiations, and early warning systems. Attention was also drawn to strengthening support for women mediators, women contributing to peacebuilding, and organizations led by them.

Turkmenistan's participation in the forum is a continuation of the country's efforts within the UN framework to promote a culture of peace and trust, preventive diplomacy, and the importance of the principle of neutrality in ensuring international peace and security.
