Turkmenistan plans to participate in the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF 13), which will be held in Baku in May 2026. This was announced by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan in an interview with the Azerbaijani website "Report."
According to the Ambassador, the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF 13), to be held in Baku in 2026, will be a significant milestone in advancing the global agenda for sustainable urban development and strengthening international cooperation in the field of modern urbanization.
"Turkmenistan plans to participate in this forum at a high level. In Turkmenistan, priority is given to housing construction as well as improving the living conditions of the population. The main direction of the state policy on urban planning is the creation of a comfortable, modern, and safe urban environment. Clear evidence of this can be seen in the country's capital, Ashgabat, as well as the city of Arkadag, which demonstrate a comprehensive approach to urban infrastructure planning and dynamic development," the Ambassador noted.
The interview also highlighted that despite being major energy states with significant oil and gas resources, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are showing growing interest in the development of "green" energy. In this regard, it was emphasized that one of the promising areas of cooperation could be the development of joint projects in solar and wind energy.
According to the Ambassador, an important direction could be the creation of joint infrastructure for the transmission and export of "green" electricity. This could include the construction of cable lines across the Caspian Sea floor, the integration of energy systems, and participation in regional projects for exporting electricity toward Europe.
It was also noted during the interview that Days of Culture of Azerbaijan are planned to be held in Turkmenistan this year.
