
At the beginning of March 2026, Esen Aydogdyev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Bulgaria (with residence in Moscow), visited Sofia to participate in events marking Bulgaria’s national holiday — Liberation Day. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The Ambassador conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova, and the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Andrey Gyurow, on behalf of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
During the visit, E. Aydogdyev met with Petko Doikov, Director General of the Directorate General for Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The Ambassador informed the Bulgarian side that widespread celebrations for the National Holiday of the Turkmen Horse are planned for 2026 and extended an invitation to Bulgarian representatives to participate in the festivities.
During the negotiations, held in a constructive atmosphere, views were exchanged on a wide range of issues regarding Turkmen-Bulgarian cooperation. Acknowledging the great potential for relations, the interlocutors reaffirmed the importance of intensifying partnership at the state level as well as within international organizations, including the UN and the Turkmenistan-European Union dialogue.
Trade and economic cooperation, transport, healthcare, tourism, and several other sectors were highlighted as key areas of bilateral relations. In this regard, matters concerning the organization of the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Bulgarian Commission on Economic Cooperation were discussed.
Regarding interaction between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the diplomats reviewed dates for bilateral consultations. Cooperation in the fields of science, education, and culture was also a topic of mutual interest.
