Ashgabat and Brussels are preparing for the visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the capital of the European Union. The decision to conduct the visit has been made, and the parties are currently coordinating the dates. This was announced on Tuesday in Ashgabat during a press conference dedicated to the results of cooperation between the European Union and Turkmenistan, as well as the cooperation areas planned for 2026.
Within the framework of the visit, meetings of the President of Turkmenistan with the heads of the European Commission, the European Council, and the European Parliament, as well as European commissioners, are planned. The agenda of the visit will include issues of political dialogue, energy security, cooperation in the field of education, and youth programs.
Consultations on the dates of the President of Turkmenistan's visit to Brussels are ongoing, and a package of bilateral documents is planned to be prepared for signing by the time the negotiations take place, reported Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Myahri Bashimova.
As part of developing the dialogue with Ashgabat, the European Parliament plans to discuss the ratification of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. Currently, cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union is carried out on the basis of the Interim Agreement on trade and trade-related matters. According to the EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Beata Peksa, the issue of ratifying the agreement is expected to be considered at an inter-parliamentary meeting in Brussels in early March.
