
On February 23, 2026, the two-day official visit of the Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan to Georgia began. On the same day, a meeting was held in the Parliament of Georgia between representatives of the legislative bodies of Turkmenistan and Georgia, led by the Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, D. Gulmanova, and the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Sh. Papuashvili.
During the meeting, the parties noted that Turkmen-Georgian cooperation is developing on a consistent and systematic basis, covering a wide range of mutually beneficial areas. Within this partnership, inter-parliamentary relations hold special significance, serving as an important tool for strengthening mutual understanding and coordinating positions on key issues of the bilateral agenda.
Emphasizing the dynamic nature of the established inter-parliamentary ties, the parties highlighted the immense role of high-level parliamentary visits, as well as the annual meetings of inter-parliamentary friendship groups. This format of cooperation acts as a key element of parliamentary diplomacy, which serves as a vital tool for strengthening interstate relations and provides impetus to the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The parties discussed legislative initiatives and the prospects of joint projects. Special attention was paid to improving the work of friendship groups, exchanging experience, strengthening interaction between relevant committees, and creating conditions for regular and effective negotiations. Particular importance was attached to establishing relations between the Young Parliamentarians Group of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the young parliamentarians of the Georgian Parliament, as well as between women parliamentarians. The parties also expressed their readiness to continue the practice of mutual support for initiatives proposed within the framework of international organizations.
At the end of the meeting, an Agreement on Cooperation was signed between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Parliament of Georgia. The parties expressed confidence that this document would provide a reliable basis for further development of inter-parli
