Chinese scientists have created the world's first system that combines fiber-optic and wireless signal transmission. Until now, engineers had not been able to achieve high-speed transmission between two types of networks on a single infrastructure. However, the new development made it possible to reach speeds of 512 Gbps over fiber optics and 400 Gbps via wireless communication — a world record, according to the "Big Asia" media group.
The innovation exceeds the bandwidth of 5G networks by more than 10 times: during tests of the hybrid system, researchers successfully launched 8K video streaming simultaneously across 86 channels. As the scientists noted, their development has significant potential for application in the deployment of 6G networks and the creation of wireless data centers.
