
On March 25, 2026, a meeting was held between the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Mähri Bäşimowa, and Charlotte Adrian, the Head of the Unit for Central Asia and Afghanistan of the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA). This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues related to the further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union were discussed. The parties also considered key issues of trade and economic cooperation. The importance of developing transport and transit connectivity between Central Asia and the European Union was emphasized.
Cooperation in the energy sector occupied a special place on the agenda of the negotiations. Mutual interest was expressed in continuing the sectoral dialogue, including within the framework of the existing energy cooperation format, as well as expanding cooperation in areas such as the green growth and the climate change agenda.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation. In particular, they discussed the implementation of several EU programs and projects aimed at supporting youth in Turkmenistan and the region, sustainable energy, trade, digital connectivity, and other areas.
The parties confirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union both in a bilateral format and within the framework of the "Central Asia – European Union" dialogue.
