The Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan, Nazar Agahanow, and the coordinator of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Turkmenistan, Joachim Fritz, signed a protocol on amendments to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2024. The document envisages the continued implementation of the program to develop the potential of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor in Turkmenistan.
As noted in the report, this initiative is a follow-up to the agreements reached at the International Investors Forum held in Tashkent in November 2025. At the forum, the European Union, Germany, and France agreed on the launch of the "Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor" program. This was reported by the official media of Turkmenistan on Saturday.
The program is aimed at increasing the efficiency and sustainability of the corridor connecting Central Asia with Europe, as well as creating a competitive transport route. The implementation of this project in the region during 2026–2029 will be carried out by GIZ and "Expertise France" with the support of the EU, Germany, and France.
At the end of March 2026, representatives of GIZ and "Expertise France" arrived in Turkmenistan on a working visit. During the visit, the delegation held negotiations with representatives of the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the State Plant Quarantine Service, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan, as well as the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
Furthermore, the delegation visited the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, where future directions of cooperation related to the implementation of the program were discussed.
