
On March 25, the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan, Jumamyrat Gurbangeldyyev, held a series of meetings at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France. During the meetings, issues of developing international cooperation in education were discussed with the organization's leaders. This was reported by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.
During negotiations with UNESCO Director-General Khaled Al-Enany, the parties reviewed the current state and prospects of cooperation. Special attention was paid to ensuring equal access to high-quality education, digital transformation of education systems, and the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into the teaching process.
The meeting also emphasized that as a result of jointly implemented initiatives, the national education system is being consistently strengthened, and its integration into the global educational space is being supported.
The head of UNESCO praised the reforms being carried out in Turkmenistan, noting their systematic and future-oriented nature. The country's contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) was also highlighted.
Within the framework of the visit, a separate meeting was held with the Assistant Director-General for Education of UNESCO, Stefania Giannini. The meeting took place during the presentation of the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report 2026). The parties discussed digitalization in education, the development of lifelong learning opportunities, and the expansion of cooperation with relevant structures of the organization.
Particular attention was focused on Ashgabat’s participation in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, the possibility of opening a new chair titled "Digital Science," and cooperation with the Institute for Information Technologies in Education.
Following the meetings, mutual interests in further expanding cooperation and implementing joint educational projects were confirmed.
During the event, the Minister of Education of Turkmenistan also held talks with the Minister of Preschool and School Education of Uzbekistan, Ezozhon Karimova.
