The Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, supported by the UNDP project on ecosystem conservation in the Aral Sea basin, has conducted a comprehensive winter bird census in the Lebap region. The monitoring covered key water bodies near Gazojak city, Darganata, and Charjew districts, as well as the banks of the Amu Darya and Karakum rivers.
Experts from the Amudarya State Nature Reserve identified numerous species of migratory birds arriving from Russia and Kazakhstan. The scientific team closely studied the species diversity, seasonal numbers, and feeding conditions of the birds. Rare sightings of pelicans, geese, and swans were documented through professional photography. This ecological mission aims to enhance the sustainable management of natural resources and ensure the protection of vital habitats for migratory species in Central Asia.
