
The recently accredited Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Thailand, M. Mashalow (with residence in Kuala Lumpur), held a series of talks in Bangkok on February 11 and 13.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, on February 11, he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Sihasak Phuangketkeo. During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of bilateral cooperation in various fields and prospects for its future development. Noting the need to intensify high-level visits between the two states, the parties expressed interest in discussing the establishment of a mutually acceptable intergovernmental cooperation mechanism. The possibility of holding bilateral consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers in Bangkok during the current year was also reviewed.
On February 13, the Turkmen diplomat met with Suparak Chomchan, Vice President of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and provided a brief overview of the activities of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan. It was emphasized that the CCI of Turkmenistan actively supports national producers and exporters in accessing international markets and organizes international conferences and exhibitions both in Turkmenistan and abroad. The Thai side expressed readiness to assist in the development of trade and economic cooperation.
On the same day, Mashalow also met with the Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, Police Lieutenant General Panumas Bunyalag, at the Headquarters of the Immigration Service of Thailand. The Thai side announced its readiness to provide broad support for migration cooperation. The desire to develop cooperation between the relevant agencies of the two countries was confirmed. The Turkmen side proposed intensifying cooperation in the field of migration. In particular, issues of preventing illegal migration, combating relevant violations, and creating favorable conditions for people in need of protection in accordance with international norms were discussed. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain regular contact.
