Apple unveiled the first foldable smartphone in the iPhone family, the iPhone Duo, during the Surprise and Shine presentation held in Cupertino.

The starting price of the new device is $1,999, and it is expected to go on sale on October 23. When unfolded, the iPhone Duo’s screen doubles in size, allowing the smartphone to be used as a device with a larger workspace.

The new model features one of the largest displays among Apple’s smartphones, along with a thin body. Titanium and ceramic fibers are used in the device’s construction, while the front and rear panels are equipped with Ceramic Shield protection technology.

The iPhone Duo can charge up to 50 percent of its battery capacity in about 20 minutes. The new smartphone is available in two colors — Star White and Night Sky.

According to the company’s new CEO, John Ternus, the new foldable model will allow users to view information on a larger screen and make more effective use of the smartphone’s capabilities for various tasks.

During the presentation, Apple also unveiled the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. Their starting prices are set at $1,199 and $1,299, respectively. According to the company, the iPhone 18 Pro Max can provide up to 45 hours of battery life, while the iPhone 18 Pro can operate for up to 36 hours.

Apple also introduced a new generation of AirPods headphones, as well as the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 smartwatches. The new devices feature improved capabilities such as noise cancellation, health monitoring, conversation recording, and converting conversations into text.

The presentation was also significant as John Ternus’s first major public event after becoming CEO of Apple. He succeeded Tim Cook in the position. Ternus previously served as the company’s vice president of hardware engineering.
