President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a document establishing Hockey Day in Russia. The holiday will be celebrated annually on December 22. According to the document, this decision was adopted in order to widely promote and develop hockey in Russia. The date was chosen by the Ministry of Sports of Russia. On December 22, 1946, the first matches of the USSR ice hockey championship took place. The capital's "Dynamo" team became the country's first champion.
