The "New York Post" reports that US President Donald Trump would like to see FIFA President Gianni Infantino as the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN).
The President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) built a close relationship with Trump during the preparation and organization of the 2026 World Cup. Last December, he presented Trump with the FIFA Peace Prize.
According to the "New York Post," Trump believes that Infantino is "respected by everyone in the world" and notes his "special ability to bring people together."
The new UN Secretary-General will be elected during this year to succeed António Guterres of Portugal, whose term ends at the end of the year. To be elected to this post, Infantino must first secure the support of the 15 members of the UN Security Council, five of whom hold veto power. Afterwards, his candidacy must be approved by the UN General Assembly.
