Real Madrid secured a 2–1 away victory over Barcelona in an “El Clásico” match held as part of the 10th round of the Spanish football championship.
Kylian Mbappé was the standout performer for the Madrid side. He scored in the 41st and 87th minutes to secure the win for his team. Barcelona’s only goal came from Raphinha in the 61st minute. Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, missed the match due to the flu.
With his two goals in the match, Mbappé brought his total number of goals for Real Madrid to 100. The French forward thus became the 24th player in the club’s history to reach this milestone. Mbappé joined the Madrid club in the summer of 2024.
The defeat also brought Barcelona’s winning streak in the Spanish championship to an end. The Catalan side had won nine consecutive matches at the start of the season. Real Madrid achieved a similar run in the 1968–1969 season.
Despite the result, Barcelona remain at the top of the league standings with 27 points. Real Madrid sit in third place with 24 points.
In the next round, Barcelona will host Alavés on 31 October. Real Madrid will play away against Racing on 1 November.
