President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has proposed considering the possibility of building a large oil refinery in Central Asia.

He put forward this initiative at the informal consultative meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan held in Cholpon-Ata.

As Rahmon noted, energy security is one of the key conditions for the sustainable development of the region and requires joint solutions in this area.

"I propose instructing our relevant agencies to thoroughly study the issue of building a large oil refinery in the region using the latest technologies. At the same time, of course, the domestic needs of the region's countries for key petroleum products must first be taken into account," said the President of Tajikistan.
