Ongoing extreme heat and drought in the United Kingdom have negatively affected agricultural production, leading to shortages of certain vegetables across the country.

Due to reduced crop yields, prices for some products on the domestic market, including broccoli and tomatoes, have increased significantly. According to some reports, their prices have nearly doubled compared with previous periods.

Initially, farmers expected a high harvest, but excessive heat and prolonged drought prevented them from achieving the planned results. This was reported by “news.by”.

To compensate for the shortage, retail stores, restaurants, and other food service businesses have started importing products such as broccoli and salad vegetables mainly from Spain and the Netherlands.

At the same time, more than 100 companies in the country have appealed to the UK Prime Minister, calling for stronger food security measures and reduced dependence on foreign imports.

Experts note that the increasing frequency of extreme heat periods caused by climate change requires new approaches in agriculture and the development of sustainable production methods.
