France Passes Landmark Bill Banning Social Media Access for Children Under 15

In a monumental legislative move aimed at safeguarding youth digital well-being, the French Parliament has definitively adopted a bill prohibiting social media access for individuals under the age of 15, as reported by BFMTV.

The legislation received overwhelming parliamentary backing, with 279 deputies voting in favor and 81 opposing. With this decisive vote, France has officially become the first country in Europe to implement a nationwide social media ban for minors under 15.

The French government plans to enforce the ban in two strategic phases. Starting September 1, mandatory age verification measures will be applied to all newly created accounts. Meanwhile, the regulations for existing user accounts will come into full effect on January 1, 2027.
