Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several Latin American countries, inundating populated areas. The natural disasters have damaged residential buildings, roads and other infrastructure facilities, according to the MIR 24 television channel.
In Ecuador, floodwaters submerged streets, homes and major highways. The disaster also caused power supply disruptions, while airport operations were temporarily suspended. For safety reasons, residents are being evacuated to temporary shelters. According to the report, the flooding has affected 23,000 people, and there have been fatalities.
In Mexico, heavy rains and flooding have also claimed 11 lives. Powerful torrents of water triggered by a slope collapse swept vehicles off the roads.
