A small cube-shaped satellite being jointly developed by the member states of the Organization of Turkic States is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2027. The satellite is expected to be sent into space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The project is being developed in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. It forms part of broader efforts to strengthen cooperation in space technologies among member states, including Türkiye, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
In October 2026, on the sidelines of the 77th International Astronautical Congress held in Antalya, Türkiye, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan initiated the signing of a framework agreement aimed at expanding cooperation among the organization's member states in the space industry.
The agreement covers areas such as satellite development, the advancement of space technologies, scientific research and stronger industrial cooperation. The experience gained through the joint cube satellite project is expected to support the implementation of more ambitious space initiatives in the future.
Cooperation among Turkic states in the space sector is aimed not only at technological development but also at addressing practical challenges. These include sharing satellite data, managing water resources, developing agriculture, protecting the environment, monitoring climate change and tracking the risks of natural disasters.
