Lamborghini is changing course: the company has decided to move away from producing fully electric vehicles and transition toward hybrid models instead. According to "The Sunday Times," the famous brand decided to focus on developing plug-in hybrids (PHEV) due to low demand for "pure" electric cars.
Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of the company, officially confirmed the change in strategy. According to him, all models will be hybrids by 2030, while they will strive to maintain the production of traditional engines for as long as possible. The project for the "Lanzador," the first fully electric vehicle planned for release in 2028, has been completely canceled.
Winkelmann emphasized that this decision was made after consultation with customers and took more than a year to finalize. He called investing in electric vehicles when the market is not ready an "expensive hobby" and a disregard for financial responsibility toward shareholders and employees.
Despite global shifts in the automotive industry, Lamborghini is showing steady growth. The company, part of the "Volkswagen Group," achieved a historical record by selling 10,747 cars in 2025. The main drivers of this success were precisely the hybrid models: "Revuelto," "Urus," and "Temerario." At the same time, a nearly 10% decrease in sales in the US market, one of the brand's key markets, also influenced the revision of plans.
