Typically, trucks are distinguished by their large size. As the name suggests, large vehicles are used for transporting goods in mining, construction, and agriculture.
The smallest trucks are produced in Japan. So-called “kei trucks” are 3.4 meters long and 1.48 meters wide. Lightweight “kei” trucks, with a weight of up to 700 kg, are powered by a fuel-efficient 660cc engine. They have a load capacity of 350 kg and are reliable and easy to operate.
Mini trucks are used in agriculture, urban deliveries, and hard-to-reach areas, with speeds ranging from 88 to 140 km/h.
Four-wheel drive (4WD) “kei” trucks are produced by companies such as Suzuki (Carry), Daihatsu (Hijet), Honda (Acty), Subaru (Sambar), Mitsubishi (Minicab), and Nissan (Clipper). They are popular for their low cost, versatility, and ability to carry loads to difficult locations. Kei trucks can travel up to 320,000 km without major technical issues. Mini trucks are also in high demand in the United States.
