Myrat Archayev, Deputy Chairman of the State Concern Türkmengaz, has announced that construction of the Serhetabat–Herat section of the TAPI gas pipeline is progressing according to schedule. Natural gas deliveries along this route are expected to begin in 2027. He made the announcement while speaking at the 31st international conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan — OGT 2026.”

Construction of the 153-kilometre section of the pipeline running through Afghanistan began on September 11, 2024. Around 700 Turkmen specialists and more than 300 pieces of specialised equipment are currently involved in the work.

According to Myrat Archayev, successful implementation of the TAPI project depends on modern infrastructure, stable relations among partner countries and a reliable legal framework. He also emphasised that Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality helps create open and predictable conditions for the development of international cooperation.

His address highlighted Turkmenistan’s natural gas reserves, particularly the Galkynysh gas field, as the long-term resource base for the project. The country attaches particular importance to diversifying its energy export routes by expanding cooperation in eastern, southern and western directions.

The representative of the leadership of the State Concern Türkmengaz noted that Turkmenistan seeks to implement new energy projects while taking technical, economic and legal conditions into account. Such initiatives are intended not only to expand opportunities for exporting energy resources but also to strengthen long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation among countries in the region.

The TAPI gas pipeline is one of the major regional projects designed to create new opportunities for Turkmenistan’s energy resources to reach global markets. Its phased implementation could mark an important step towards advancing regional cooperation in the energy sector.
