
The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Khalilur Rahman, has been elected to the position of President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to world press reports, the voting to elect the new president took place at the headquarters of the international organization.
As a result of the vote, Khalilur Rahman's candidacy was supported by 99 out of the 190 member states of the UN General Assembly. His main rival, Andreas Kakouris, the special representative of the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, received 91 votes.
The newly elected President, Khalilur Rahman, will fully assume his internationally responsible duties at the beginning of September this year, within the framework of the official opening ceremony of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. This new diplomatic phase holds an important place in coordinating global sustainable development issues.
