Nokia and HMD Global have agreed to extend their mutual licensing agreement for several more years. However, during this new period, Nokia-branded smartphones will not be produced — the partnership will continue exclusively for feature phones, reports Gazeta.ru, citing GizmoChina.
Initially, the joint production was set to end in 2026, but under the new deal, the term has been extended by another three years. So far, no official statements have been issued by the companies.
Nokia HMD Global phones are manufactured in factories located in India and China, with India remaining the primary market in terms of both sales volume and export operations.
According to IDC data, HMD Global holds a strong position in the Indian market, accounting for 22.4% of all feature phone sales. In 2024, nearly 54 million feature phones were sold in India.
