Hery Dear President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow received Odil Reno-Basso, the Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), who arrived in our country on a working visit. During the meeting, the parties discussed priority areas of bilateral cooperation and defined the key vectors of future relations.

During the conversation, the Head of State noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to effective relations established with international financial organizations, including the EBRD. Large-scale reforms aimed at diversifying the economy, supporting entrepreneurship, developing export-oriented production, and attracting investments are being successfully implemented in our country.

As Ms. Odil Reno-Basso noted, the EBRD expresses great interest in further expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan. The parties emphasized the importance of developing partnership in such vital areas as energy, transport and logistics, digital economy, environmental protection, as well as agriculture and the rational use of water resources. In particular, wide opportunities for implementing joint projects on transitioning to "green" energy and modernizing regional international transport corridors were noted.

Within the framework of the visit, a meeting was also held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Following the negotiations, a ceremony was held to sign important documents aimed at bringing relations between the parties to a qualitatively new level. These include the following memorandums:

  • Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Bank of Turkmenistan and the EBRD on strategic directions for 2027–2032;

  • Memorandum of Strategic Partnership on strengthening the banking system and supporting economic diversification;

  • Memorandum of Cooperation in the fields of sustainable energy, environmental protection, and efficient use of water resources;

  • Memorandum on modernizing transport corridors and developing transit potential;

  • Memorandum of Cooperation within the framework of the "Green Cities" program between the khokimiyat of Ashgabat city and the EBRD.

These meetings and signed documents will give a powerful impetus to the further strengthening and expansion of mutually beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
