Rhubarb is one of the most beneficial plants in nature's pharmacy, highly revered by the Turkmen people since ancient times. The importance of this plant for human health is extensively detailed in Hero Arkadag’s scientific book, "Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan."
Species and Distribution in Turkmenistan: Four species of rhubarb are registered in our country:
- In Koytendag: Large-seeded rhubarb, Maximowicz's rhubarb, and heart-shaped rhubarb are widespread.
- In Desert and Mountainous Regions: Turkestan rhubarb is found in Kurendag, Badhyz, the Karakum and Hazar deserts, and across all ridges of the Kopetdag.
Biological Features:
- Height: Reaches between 40 and 80 centimeters.
- Leaves: In some regions like Archabil and Mount Markow, leaf sizes can exceed 80 centimeters.
Medicinal Importance: Rhubarb ranks fifth among the most used medicinal plants globally. It is used to treat and prevent:
- Liver and stomach diseases;
- Asthma and respiratory tract disorders;
- Stopping hematemesis (vomiting blood) and soothing pain;
- General strengthening of the body.
Every year, the growth stages of rhubarb are recorded in the "Chronicle of Nature" books of the state reserves to preserve this medicinal wealth for future generations.
