US President Donald Trump has announced new structural changes within the White House administration. Under the decision, Stephen Miller, who previously served as deputy chief of staff, will be appointed Chief of Staff of the administration starting 9 November 2026. Donald Trump announced this on 6 November on his Truth Social social media account.
In the president’s statement, Stephen Miller was described as one of his most trusted advisers. Susie Wiles, who currently holds the position, will continue working with Trump’s political team (Trump Political Operation). Donald Trump thanked her for her work as Chief of Staff of the administration and praised her performance.
Susie Wiles also announced on her X social media account that Friday would be her final working day as White House Chief of Staff. She described the opportunity to work at the White House during Donald Trump’s presidency as one of the most important jobs of her life. According to information from American media outlets citing White House sources, Wiles submitted her resignation on Thursday evening.
Stephen Miller described his appointment to the new position as a great honour and expressed his gratitude to Susie Wiles for her dedicated service and friendship.
Susie Wiles had been leading the White House administration since the beginning of Donald Trump’s second presidential term. She made history as the first woman appointed to this position. Stephen Miller, meanwhile, is considered one of the key architects of Trump’s immigration policy. Since 2025, he has served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and National Security Adviser.
The personnel change at the White House took place just days after the US midterm elections to Congress. According to media reports, representatives of the Democratic Party gained control of both chambers of Congress following the elections. Publications such as ABC News and Axios, citing their sources, reported that Donald Trump was dissatisfied with the election results. Nevertheless, the official reason for the personnel change has not yet been disclosed.
Answering journalists’ questions while leaving the White House, Donald Trump said that he wanted to “make a change” in this position.
