Turkmen schoolchildren are given the opportunity to take part in the Open World Astronomy Olympiad (OWAO 2026), which will be held in the "Sirius" federal territory in the Russian Federation. According to the Embassy of Russia in Turkmenistan, Turkmenistan can participate in this international scientific competition with one national team consisting of two to six schoolchildren aged 18 or younger. The team can also be accompanied by one leader and two observers. The organizers of the Olympiad will fully cover the participants' accommodation and meal expenses. During the Olympiad, young astronomers will compete in four rounds—theoretical, practical, observational, and testing—which will test their theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and observational abilities. The official working language of OWAO 2026 will be English. In addition, when completing the competition tasks, participants will be able to use a special dictionary of astronomical terms previously translated into their native language by the team leaders. The program of the international Olympiad includes not only competitive rounds but also master classes, excursions to historical places, and various educational events on space sciences. These events are expected to increase young people's interest in astronomy and space sciences, as well as provide an opportunity to gain experience at the international level. Applications and registration for students wishing to participate in OWAO 2026 will remain open until October 4, 2026. For additional information regarding the rules and conditions of participation in the Olympiad, you can contact the organizing committee via a special e-mail.
