The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan continue their strategic partnership by launching the fourth phase of the joint project titled "Partnership for Accelerating the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."
This agreement marks a new stage of long-term cooperation in promoting Turkmenistan's national priorities and confirms the country's commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals officially adopted in September 2016.
The fourth phase of the project is aimed at further strengthening Turkmenistan's national capacity for effective implementation and monitoring of the SDGs. Key focus will be placed on supporting the implementation of development financing initiatives within the framework of preparing Turkmenistan's third Voluntary National Review on the achievement of the SDGs. The project also aims to increase the capacity of local executive authorities to integrate sustainable development principles at the regional level.
"The continuation of this strategic partnership will strengthen national mechanisms for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and create conditions for sustainable economic and social development in all regions of the country," noted Ms. Narine Sahakyan, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan.
The joint project of UNDP and the Ministry of Finance and Economy will serve as an important platform for coordinating the efforts of various ministries and sectoral agencies of Turkmenistan, international partners, and civil society, uniting forces toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Turkmenistan.
