The University of Oxford in the United Kingdom has announced its readiness to support Turkmenistan’s gas industry with technologies aimed at reducing uncontrolled releases of natural gas into the atmosphere. Ahmad Kamesh, the university’s representative for research and development, announced this during the 31st International Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan — OGT 2026,” held in Ashgabat.
According to Ahmad Kamesh, the University of Oxford places particular emphasis on scientific research and the development of innovative solutions designed to reduce adverse environmental impacts. His work specifically involves improving valves and related technologies used in the transportation of gas through pipelines.
The main objective of these solutions is to prevent uncontrolled natural gas leaks and reduce emissions into the atmosphere. As the specialist explained, the relevant technologies can make it possible to redirect gas that might otherwise escape into the atmosphere back into the pipeline. This approach helps protect the environment while reducing gas losses and making more efficient use of natural resources.
Ahmad Kamesh noted that these issues are also highly relevant to Turkmenistan’s gas industry. As a country with substantial natural gas reserves, Turkmenistan has opportunities to cooperate on reducing gas losses, improving the efficiency of production processes, and introducing more environmentally friendly technologies.
The University of Oxford representative also stated that this was his third consecutive year visiting Turkmenistan. According to him, the OGT exhibition has been expanding in scale each year, with the number of participating companies and specialists continuing to grow. Ahmad Kamesh attributed this trend to Turkmenistan’s economic development and the expansion of international business cooperation.
The university’s local partner in Turkmenistan is the company “Türkmen Gala.” According to Ahmad Kamesh, their cooperation involves exchanging knowledge and expertise, providing technical support, and introducing British experience in the relevant field to the Turkmen market. Particular attention is also being paid to raising young people’s awareness of modern technologies and environmental issues.
The technologies offered by the University of Oxford create new opportunities to strengthen international cooperation in the gas industry, promote efficient resource use, reduce production losses, and protect the environment.
